Whilst working at BBC Radio Shropshire, 25-year-old Francesca Price was advised by her News Editor to sign up for the Journalism NCTJ Level 3 Diploma to enable her to progress in her career in local radio.
Francesca said: “The course covers shorthand, media law, court reporting and video journalism and helped me to get my current job as a producer/journalist at BBC Radio Shropshire – I love every minute of it.
“I conduct interviews, edit audio, book guests, write programme cues and news bulletins and produce programmes. I use what I learnt about my media law on a daily basis – especially for court cases – and would eventually like to produce the mid-morning show at Radio Shropshire full-time.
“Throughout the course I received lots of support from the tutor – -she was a huge help and spent time after lessons going through my essays and helping with my shorthand.
“If you are thinking about doing this course, go for it! The support is fantastic, the resources are excellent, and it will really help you if you want a career in journalism.”
