Why did you decide to take on an apprentice?
We have employed young people as apprentices in the past, both in Complesso and in our sister company Karisa.
It has proved to be an excellent way to recruit and retain talented individuals who can be trained within the company, encompassing our values
What duties does the apprentice carry out?
Our current apprentice is part of the recruitment and compliance team.
They shortlist candidates, conduct interviews, apply for right to work and DBS documentation, plan training and maintain candidate compliance trackers.
They also compile our quarterly staff newsletter and provide some of our social media posts, as well as undertaking general admin duties including filing and taking minutes in meetings.
How has the company benefitted from having an apprentice?
We have gained an excellent employee who is part of the culture and ethos of the company.
All companies require good administrators and they have learned excellent business administration skills which are invaluable to the company.
What support did you receive from the college when setting up the apprenticeship and what support is provided to you and your apprentice during their training?
I was guided through the process from start to finish, including health and safety, risk assessments, recruitment and interview process.
There was excellent communication from all concerned and throughout our apprentice’s learning journey the communication, support and updates from our apprentice assessor has been amazing!
What would you say to other employers who are considering taking on an apprentice?
I would whole heartedly recommend having an apprentice to any employer!
We have gained well-trained, sector-passionate employees and the college has been extremely supportive.
