If you want a career in carpentry, this new T level qualification will enable you to combine learning in the classroom with gaining 'on-the job' experience. You will gain a range of specialist carpentry skills as well as important knowledge needed to work in the construction industry.

As part of the course you will complete a work placement - of a minimum of 315 hours (approximately 45 days) - which will enable you to put your learning into practice in a real-life setting, get a taste of what the industry is like, and benefit from working alongside experienced colleagues in the workplace - all of which will look great on your CV and impress employers when you are applying for jobs in the future.This is a two-year course and, on completion, you will receive an industry-recognised T Level qualification which is the equivalent to three A Levels.

To access this course you are required to have:

  • 4 x GCSE Grade 4 or above Inc Maths and English
  • Carpentry & Joinery Level 1 Diploma
  • A good attitude to learning and commitment to a 2-year course.
  • A record of high attendance from your previous studies

You will learn your skills in the purpose-built construction centre at the Wellington Road campus which has dedicated workshops for each trade and is equipped with industry-standard professional tools and equipment, so you will gain experience of using the same kit as you will use in the workplace.

You will be taught by experienced tutors with professional experience of working in the industry and will also benefit from taking part in enrichment activities to enhance your learning - such as hearing from guest speakers or taking part in trade competitions and skills tests.

You will also benefit from a range of other facilities on campus - including a gym, hairdressing and barbering salon, refectory serving hot and cold meals and snacks, Starbucks concession, bakery shop and a Study Hub equipped with text books and IT equipment for use throughout your course.
