Doing a Level 5 leadership and management apprenticeship has reaped great rewards for Stephen Morgan, a senior analyst at City of Wolverhampton Council as, part way through the programme, he applied for the role of corporate analytics manager within the organisation – and got the job!
Stephen, aged 42, said: “This is the second apprenticeship I have done as an adult learner and, although it can sometimes be challenging, it’s a flexible way of learning and can fit around existing commitments.
“Learning about different management and leadership styles was particularly useful and it reinforced my understanding of performance management. Dealing with conflict is never easy so it was also useful to learn about what causes it and techniques for managing it.
“During the interview process for the corporate analytics manager role, I used my learning to answer some of the questions by referring to the use of different management and leadership styles to help deal with different situations and the importance of identifying and consulting appropriately with stakeholders.
“I opted for this apprenticeship as I wanted to improve my knowledge and skills in the hoping of giving me new, improved employment opportunities and it definitely helped!”
