“My apprenticeship gave me a professional outlook of what I need to do as I go into working life,” said 23-year-old Georgia Grainger who has recently completed her level 3 business administration apprenticeship.
Georgia, who combined working in the college’s exams department with studying for her qualifications added: “I wanted to work in the education system and further my knowledge in business and chose an apprenticeship as I enjoy working while learning.
“During my training I learnt many new skills and also how to adapt those I already had from previous learning to the work I was doing in my role in the department.
“My apprenticeship helped me to understand how a big department, as well as the education system, works and the skills I learnt, whether large or small, have helped improve my knowledge and increased my confidence in doing the job.
“When I found out that I’d successfully completed the end point assessment and passed my apprenticeship I felt very accomplished and am now working full-time in the exams department. The college is an enjoyable place to work and has opened up a lot of opportunities for me, and I would gradually like to work my way up to other positions within the organisation.
“You may be led to believe that staying on at school and going to university is the only way to achieve your dream career, but there are plenty of places that will give you the opportunity to learn while you work and gain the skill set you need without spending thousands of pounds on a degree.
“If working while you learn is something you’re interested in, I’d definitely recommend considering an apprenticeship.”
