21-year-old Ankita Varma signed up for the Level 3 extended diploma in travel and tourism to gain the skills needed to work in the industry or progress to a degree at university.
Ankita said: “I’ve always had an interest in travel and tourism and I also want to go to university, so chose this course as it would provide an opportunity for me to do so.
“The course covers a wide range of units – including aviation, hospitality and cruises, as well as marketing and event management – which has given me the opportunity to explore all areas of the industry, and I have also developed skills that will be useful in the industry, such as communication, customer service, teamwork and leadership.
“I’m assessed through a range of different means such as role play, presentations, assignments and group work and have regular one-to-one sessions with my tutor to check my progress and make sure I’m achieving my best.
“The tutors are supportive with anything I’m struggling with and, since starting the course, my grades have improved, which has enabled me to gain a place at the University of Wolverhampton to study for a BA (Hons) in Human Resource Management.
“Education is definitely the best route to enable you to gain the knowledge and skills required for your dream career – work hard and dreams come true, the impossible is possible!”
