This course will give you an excellent introduction to the travel and tourism industry and help you learn the essential skills you need to progress on to a higher-level programme.
While completing this programme you will grow in confidence as you acquire a range of skills that are recognised and highly valued by employers, such as planning trips to European and worldwide travel destinations, exploring marketing, cruise destinations, travel agency operations and customer services.
If you're interested in working in the aviation sector, you'll study a number of industry-specific modules which will give you an understanding of the range of functions and facilities in different airports and airlines, as well as increase your awareness of the wide range of employment opportunities in this area of the industry.
You'll gain essential practical skills which will be enhanced by a range of visits to key travel and tourism organisations, learn from key industry representatives who will share their expertise and knowledge with you and, what's more, you'll have the chance to put your learning into practice on a work experience placement.
Visits to key travel and tourism destinations and attractions are a key part of the course and previous visits have included trips to London, Blackpool Pleasure Beach, Alton Towers, Dudley Zoo, Carding Mill Valley, Bridgnorth, Cadbury World and The NEC.
Compulsory day study visit cost is £100 for the year (payable at enrolment).
Optional residential study visit will be approx £300.
Compulsory uniform for all travel and tourism students is black shoes/trainers, black trousers/skirts/jeans (no rips) and a travel and tourism college-branded top which will be availabel to purchase when you start your course.

Four or more GCSEs at Grade D / 3 or above including English and maths OR
Successfully completed a full Level 1 study programme

Develop knowledge on the functional aspects of UK and international airports
Gain an understanding of the sectors of the industry and learn how the component industries work together
Develop an appreciation for the importance of excellent customer service in the sector
Develop your confidence and improve your skills in dealing with a range of customer types
Understand the factors that affect tourism around the world
Gain valuable team working and communication skills by taking part in planning trips and holidays for customers
Gain the opportunity to study in more depth a range of areas such as different holiday and cruise destinations, airports and airline operations, marketing travel and tourism products and services and travel agency operation
A variety of assessment methods are used including individual and group presentations, case studies, assignments, reports and marketing and event presentation materials. There are also two exams, the first in January and the second in May/June.
The skills you will learn from this course will enable you to:
Pursue a career at a junior level in a range of travel and tourism sectors such as a member of cabin crew, holiday rep, tour guide, travel agent, handling agent, airport staff and many more in the UK or overseas.
Progress onto the Level 3 BTEC Foundation Diploma in Travel & Tourism.
