“Being a business owner is something I feel hugely proud of,” said 23-year-old Lucy Latham who has recently opened her own beauty room – Luna – in Albrighton.
Lucy added: “After leaving school at 16 I worked for a natural skincare company which developed my interest in the area and led me to explore the possibility of offering beauty treatments using natural products.
“When I was 21 I decided to go back into education. I signed up for a full-time Level 2 beauty therapy course at the college in September 2017 and then progressed to the part-time Level 3 course in September 2018. I gained my qualification in June 2019 and also won the Student of the Year Award for beauty which was a lovely surprise!
“The courses taught me about many aspects in the beauty industry, as well as anatomy and physiology, and the practical lessons gave me valuable hands-on experience and the confidence to think about using my skills and knowledge to start my own business.
“Studying at college has been a huge journey for me – the support I received from staff was incredible and I can’t thank them enough for helping me through my course and making my time at college enjoyable.
“Having my own business is something I’ve always dreamed about but never thought I’d be able to do. It was a huge step and has taken a lot of hard work but it’s proof that you should never doubt what you can do – you can do whatever you set your mind to with hard work and determination.”
