Just a couple of months after doing his A Levels and leaving school, 18-year-old Ben Hart is already earning a wage on an apprenticeship scheme.
Ben, who gained his apprenticeship through the Wolves at Work employment programme and combines working for window manufacturer Kalsun Aluminium with studying for the Level 2 diploma in performing engineering operations at college, said: “I did engineering and business BTecs at school and enjoyed the maths side of the courses so going onto an engineering role seemed a natural move for me.
“I started my qualification in September and am really enjoying being hands-on in the workshop. The knowledge I’m gaining is helping me to understand different systems at work which, in turn, is making me more confident.”
Ben’s manager, Andy Hale, sales director at Kalsun, said: “Ben’s already benefitting from his training and I can just leave him with a drawing or a spreadsheet and he knows what to do.
“Apprenticeships are great as it means you can train your staff in the skills the company needs and for small organisations it’s a good way of taking on new employees.”
