“I felt that doing an apprenticeship would benefit me more as I’m learning practically and am also learning new things every day about my role as a teaching assistant,” said 19-year-old Meg Hipgrave.
Meg, who is a teaching assistant apprentice at St Benedict’s Primary School in Wombourne, added: “I have a passion for working with children and have always wanted to work in a school to help them learn and give them the opportunity to achieve the best they can.
“So far in my apprenticeship I have learnt how to communicate with children and adults and developed skills and abilities to be able to support and help children learn; as well as how to be a team player and how to always ask the class teacher if anything needs doing.
“The training is preparing me for my future career as it is teaching me so many skills and abilities – such as effective communication, good listening, confidence and teamwork – that I can use wherever I work in the future.”
