Young people who left school in the summer and still haven’t decided what to do next, job seekers looking to boost their employment prospects, employees wanting to get on the promotion ladder, and those looking to earn while they learn, have still got time to enrol at City of Wolverhampton College.
With over 300 full-time and part-time qualifications on offer from beginner to university level, courses designed to teach the skills employers are looking for, and impressive industry-standard training facilities, studying at the college will set students on the road to a great future career.
Courses on offer include accountancy, bakery, beauty therapy, business and administration, computing and IT, early years, engineering, hairdressing and barbering, health and social care, hospitality and catering, motor vehicle, science, sport and fitness, teaching and education, travel and tourism, and uniformed public services; construction qualifications in brickwork, carpentry, electrical, groundworks, painting and decorating, and plumbing; and creative courses in art and design, graphic design, journalism, media, music technology and performing arts.
Also available are English and maths courses, A Levels in a range of subjects, and Access to Higher Education diplomas for those who want to progress to university but lack the necessary grades to study at degree level.
For people who want to earn while they learn, a wide range of apprenticeships are available with businesses across the region enabling them to combine working for an employer with studying for an industry-recognised qualification at college.
And for those who want to study for university-level qualifications without moving away from home, the college offers over 30 higher education programmes – including HNCs, HNDs and Foundation Degrees – at a far lower cost than following the traditional degree route.
Courses for 16-18-year-olds are free and, for this academic year, the college has also made a number of courses available at no cost for 18-19-year-olds. Students will get the chance to improve their maths and English grades alongside their chosen qualification and, dependent on household income, may qualify for financial support including a travel pass and lunch card. And for those aged 19 and over, financial support may be available to cover course fees and exam, travel and childcare costs.
All courses have now resumed on-site and the college has introduced a number of measures to reduce the risk of Covid-19 including taking student and staff temperatures on arrival, making the wearing of face coverings compulsory in all buildings, installing hand sanitising stations on all sites and implementing one-way systems and group bubbles to maintain social distancing where possible.
