19-year old Shakira Newton completed an Early Years Traineeship to pursue her dream of working in the sector.
When starting college Shakira was shy, nervous and lacked confidence in communicating and working with other people. The Traineeship enabled her to overcome these barriers and greatly enhance her confidence. Shakira said “ I have developed several skills, qualities and knowledge during my training and work placements which has given me the confidence to pursue a career within an early years setting.
“Working with children is one of the best roles I have undertaken since leaving school.”
Learning many things through her placements, Shakira enjoys applying the knowledge and experience not only in a professional setting but with her own nephews and helps with developing their social and emotional development through different techniques.
Shakira’s willingness and great attitude towards fulfilling her dream has enabled her to have a flexible work approach and is willing to take on any other training to enhance her development.
Hard work has certainly paid off as Shakira is defining her future and has progressed onto an Apprenticeship at Little Walkers Day Nursery.
