18-year-old Elle Roberts took the first steps to a future career in human resources (HR) by enrolling for the Level 3 foundation diploma in business in 2020 and progressing to the Level 3 extended diploma this academic year.
Elle said: ”I did a year of sixth form at school but it wasn’t for me so I left and came to college instead.
“I want to work in HR in the future and, as well as covering HR policies and procedures, I’m also learning about digital marketing, finance and the legal systems which will all be useful when I get a job in the future.
“At school I felt average but since coming to college I’ve become much more confident in my work – I received an overall distinction last year and haven’t had to re-submit any assignments or re-sit any tests this year.
“When I finish the course I’m hoping to do an apprenticeship in HR – a few weeks ago, I went for an interview with a big company in Birmingham to find out more about what’s involved, and a few hours later I had a call to ask me to apply when I’ve gained my qualification
“I’m definitely glad that I came here and from what I can see from my friends, the ones that stopped at school have worked harder and got lower grades than those that have gone to college.”
