Kind-hearted students at City of Wolverhampton College have donated sets of bedding to children who have been subjected to domestic abuse and homelessness.

The group of 16 students – who are studying for a Level 1 diploma in health and social care – organised a raffle and cake and samosa sale to raise money for The Haven which supports women and children across the city who are vulnerable to domestic violence, homelessness and abuse.

The events raised a total of £150 which was used to purchase 18 duvet cover and pillowcase sets that the charity can give to children who move into one of their refuges to help them feel at home in their new environment.

Jaki Craig, tutor on the course, said: “As part of a safeguarding module of the course students looked at the impact that domestic violence can have on children and wanted to do something to help. They used a range of communication and planning skills to organise the events and research which items would be most beneficial to the charity and the families it works with.”

Hayley Powell, senior fundraiser at The Haven, said: ” When children arrive at a refuge they are often frightened and worried, so it is important that they have something that they can call their own to make them feel at home. The students’ donation has made this possible – they should be very proud of themselves and we can’t thank them enough.”
